The
Museo della Pietra Serena is housed in the subterranean area beneath the
Rocca in Firenzuola. The museum consists of four rooms, where it is possible
to find historical works in stone which have been associated with life
in Firenzuola since it was first established. There is a collection of
simple but effective work tools, a series of historical documents showing
the difficult working conditions endured by the quarrymen, and an itinerary
which starts with the extraction of stone before the availability of machines
and ends with the realisation of completed artefacts. Also on display
is a series of objects which demonstrate the versatility of pietra serena
and the mastery of highly-skilled stonemasons.
